
Most of the things in your way are simple to clear up.
That doesn’t mean they’re easy.
It does mean they’re not complicated.
We like when things are complicated. It gives us a convenient excuse for not doing them.
It‘s understandable that you’re not an expert at quantum mechanics or still haven’t gotten your due refund from that insurance billing mixup. Those are complicated. No one faults you for not finishing something complicated.
Complicated things are difficult. But we often mistake difficult things for being complicated.
Not all difficult things are complicated. Some are simple.
It’s simple to wake up early: go to bed early and set an alarm. It’s not complicated. It’s just difficult.
It’s simple to lose weight: burn more calories than you consume. It’s not complicated. It’s just difficult.
Some people will tell you it’s easy to lose weight. Most of them mean that it’s simple, not easy.
We don’t like thinking about the things we don't do that are simple but difficult. We have no convenient excuse for them. It’s embarrassing.
But change starts with accepting that truth instead of hiding behind “it’s complicated.”
